of that duty. That counsel should have to appear here to vindicate his reputation and defend his honour is not the least humiliation that this man has had to undergo. For all the reasons that I have urged, I do ask your Lordship not to pass any censure upon this man, and I venture to think that if your Lordship does not censure him then truth and justice and mercy will meet together in your Lordship’s report.
